Doryman's Inn Oceanfront - Newport Beach CAAs I closed in on 29 years of marriage, I have learned that when the wife "strongly suggests" a weekend getaway I had better listen. After all, I have lasted 29 years for a reason. My research lead me to Doryman's Inn Bed & Breakfast.
Their website is easy to navigate with lots of photos. Clearly a small and intimate but that is hat B&B's are all about. It is on prime beachfront property in Newport Beach California so I expected a little sticker shock but again, she has tolerated me for three decades. The decor was victorian themed throughout the establishment. To enter, you'll need a 5 digit code which I am sure they update on a regular basis then enter an elevator to the second floor. For those that are security freaks when traveling, this would certainly put your mind at ease.
If you're looking for a "room with a view" these probably won't satisfy that urge. While you can catch a glimpse of the pacific from some rooms, you are more likely to overlook a local business like we did in room 10 where the weekend night life stayed strong up to the 2am closing time. If you are looking for an ocean view, you'll need to grab something from their limited breakfast buffet and pull up a chair on their rooftop patio. For me, what their continental breakfast lacked (I went next-door and got some great donuts) the private view from their roof top more than made up for it.
Overall I found this as a great weekend getaway. Not what I would suggest for the budget conscious but if your wife is like mine and the beach is her happy place, this certainly checks off the boxes. There are plenty of great places to eat within walking distance and with free parking included, you'll likely not bother with the car until it is time to leave. It wasn't 5 star luxury but it was a 5 star location and we will likely return when the wife is again bitten by the bug of the Pacific Ocean. Check out our additional blogs for the local steak and seafood restaurant as well as a great Italian place just a couple minutes away.
